Someone has to say it!

The civil war in this country was not started to end slavery. It was started to stop the southern states from seceding from the Union. It was also started because the industrial north wanted continued inexpensive access to raw and processed materials such as cotton to feed the manufacturing might of the north.

President Lincoln suffered major losses over an 18 month period on the battlefield and a loss of support by some in the north for his efforts to keep the southern states in the Union. In September of 1862 he had the Emancipation Proclamation drafted

The Emancipation Proclamation was designed to free some slaves in the south but no mention of slaves in the north was effective January 1, 1863, almost three years into the civil war. I should note that the Proclamation applied to only those southern states that had in fact seceded from the Union. Some people ignore the fact that some southern states initially did not actually secede from the Union but joined in the fighting to show solidarity with fellow southerners.

Lincoln saw two positives that could come from the proclamation; first it would give a moral base for northern soldiers and their officers and political leaders to prosecute the war. Secondly it would offer slaves the opportunity to serve in the Union Army. The latter actually resulted by the end of the war in 200,000 plus slaves joining the army. According to written reports, diaries and such of black soldiers they hoped that the success of the Union Army would offer full freedom from slavery for all the slaves in the south and maybe in the north as well. It should also be noted in the letters and diaries of Union officers and soldiers that many refused to follow the directives in the Proclamation because they felt it was in conflict with our Constitution.

As the war preceded the moral issue gained strength with the north because they needed to justify to their constituents the huge loss of men to death, capture and wounds. Voters could and would vote against those who did not have a real justification for the war. By the end of the war the press was posturing the efforts of the north and Lincoln as an decision to free slaves. Little was written of the northern industrial complexes needs.

President Lincoln who started the war without consideration of freeing slaves eventually found it a rallying point for the Union in light of the severe losses the Union Army had suffered. It is kind of like Obama in 2008 being in favor of marriage between a man and a woman as guided by Jesus Christ and in 2012 he was in favor of same sex marriage. It was not a moral decision it was a practical political decision.

The reasons I bring these facts up is because the press is using the Confederate Battle Flag issue in South Carolina as the rallying cry for the Union’s war to end slavery. It is just not true,

The truth is the motivation for the Emancipation Proclamation was a practical decision to give cover to the Union for an unexpected long war with major loss of life. It was decades before further efforts were made to truly free slaves and provide civil rights.

Ever been disappointed?

As a conservative I was disappointed that SCOTUS did not over turn Obamacare, I truly believe it is a major step toward a universal health care format, a service that has been financially inefficient and lowered the standard of the quality of health care across all citizens that are dependent on state run health care. I was further disappointed when SCOTUS took the issue of same sex marriage out of the hands of the states and made it a federal all encompassing rule. I think Scalia said it all in his dissenting statement regarding the same sex marriage ruling. I’m not talking about the issue of same sex marriage, rather I’m concerned about the abuse of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Having expressed my disappointment I need to move on with a strategy that will focus conservative efforts on obtainable objectives and goals. I think my model will be borrowed from the business world in the form of “guerrilla marketing.”

Investopedia explains guerrilla marketing in the following fashion. Companies using guerrilla marketing rely on its in-your-face promotions to be spread through viral marketing or word-of-mouth, thus reaching a broader audience for free. The use of this tactic is not designed for all types of goods and services, and it is often used for more “edgy” products and to target younger consumers who are more likely to respond positively. I’m choosing to call this guerrilla action Self Defense Politics.

We have seen great strides in political actions driven by social media not unlike Obama’s campaign for President of the United States and it really worked. I know that my liberal [prefer to be called progressives] friends will ask the first question; what are the conservative ideas that pull the economy out of the doldrums, restore our country to a lead from the front power on the international front and encourage government fiscal responsibility?

My intention is to bring these ideas to the potential voters over the next fourteen months from my own research but from fellow conservatives. In fact I welcome conservatives with marketable ideas to contact me via my blog, facebook or e-mail and present those ideas so that I might practice Self Defense Politics.

Mika Brezezinski is co-host of “Morning Joe” and the epitome of the east cost liberal snob. Her attitude is a direct result of her fathers influence. Zbigniew Brezezinski is a left wing liberal and was the National Security Director for the Carter administration, probably the worst presidential administration in modern history.

Joe Scarborough is a true RINO [republican in name only] and sways with the popular public opinion regardless of what the facts may be.

Jose Biaz-Balart is passionate about Hispanic issues but his interest fades when political subjects center on administrative issues, budgets, etc.

Tamron Hall is great on the “Today Show” but her true beliefs come through when she has her own morning show on MSNBC and touts her racist, left wing political leanings.

Andrea Mitchell is the unabashed flag carrier for Hillary in the 2016 presidential election. Andrea thinks that women in all political offices will save our honor and our country. I reference my article in March this year on “A woman as President of the United States” where I point out that there are three female presidents in south America, each started with high popularity in their regimes and now were at the lowest popularity ratings in their respective careers. This is happening not because they were women but because they were failing as presidents of their respective countries.

Thomas Roberts would fit rights European news operations where they have readers.

Alex Wagner is a racist of the highest order and a true team mate of Al Sharpton another “anchor” host for MSNBC.

Ed Schultz is MSNBC’s effort to have a “blue collar” host with real people feel. Of course the management of MSNBC are left wing elitist and can’t possibly know what “real people” are and how they think.

Chris Matthews is the man with the tingle in his leg for President Obama and is so far left he is occasionally admonished by MSNBC management to temper his reports. Chris was a high level member of the democrat party and has not given any indication he can be “fair and balanced” as Fox News claims they are.

In a nation of 325 million people MSNBC reaches 359,000 people on average each quarterly hour during their daytime schedule. You might say MSNBC is too small to count but the left wing, racist, hate speech gains space in the newspapers and time on the air with mainstream media so they are a risk to getting balanced political news coverage.

Now here is the big news, Brian “the liar” Williams is being sent down to MSNBC, very much like leaving the major leagues in baseball to a farm team, in this case MSNBC. I wonder how Chris Matthews who views himself as a major player in the political world feels knowing he is part of a farm club and “the liar” is joining his team?

A good friend of mine sings in the Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church choir in Dallas Texas. The church has many outstanding musical programs during the year but last night it was Americana. This two-hour program features religious and patriotic choir and instrumentals performed at the highest level possible.

However the reason I’m writing about this excellent performance is because of what happened in one segment of the program, the Armed Forces Medley. The choir and orchestra join in playing and singing each of the armed services anthems. They invite those who served in each armed service to stand and sing their branch of the service song. In a church holding several hundred people the stand ups were numerous. I was at the back of the church in the balcony and suddenly a young man [probably early 30’s] came to the railing with his [approximately 4 year old] daughter who was singing and waving her American flag. She joined everyone in the church who had been given flags when they walked into the church. I marveled at the patriotic fervor of all those listening and singing in the audience and the pride those people expressed in their country.

What makes this an exceptional action is that it occurred in 2015. You see I was use to seeing this kind of enthusiasm in Michigan and Ohio where I grew up in the 1950’s. I hope this kind of pride in our nation is occurring not just in Dallas Texas but all over the country.
